Born in Slave Lake, Alberta, and raised in Grande Prairie from the age of six months, Dr. Schael Higson is proud to now provide dental care in the community that shaped him. His first career was in hockey: he left Grande Prairie at sixteen to pursue junior hockey and went on to play five seasons in the WHL, attend camp with the Vegas Golden Knights, and spend time in the Tampa Bay Lightning system before successive knee injuries brought his playing career to a close.
After retiring from hockey, Schael returned to the classroom, completing two years of pre-professional studies at Grande Prairie Regional College. He then accepted a seat in the dental program at the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Schael brings the discipline, resilience, and teamwork he learned through high-level sport into his approach to dentistry, focusing on thorough, compassionate care and clear communication with every patient.
Outside of work, Schael enjoys spending time with his longtime girlfriend Kelsey, their dogs Rosie and Ron, and being outdoors whenever he can. He is excited to join Higson Dental Group and looks forward to meeting new and returning patients as he begins this next chapter in Grande Prairie.
